Join Rabbi Mó for five weeks of immersive Talmud study in the SVARA-method! We will encounter and translate a text in the original, study in chevruta, and explore the ways in which the text touches our lives. Our learning will focus on skill-building (learning how to learn), the radical nature of the Jewish tradition, and the cultivation of Talmud study as a spiritual practice.
This mixed-level beit midrash is for learners who have just gotten their alef-bet down and for those with years of Talmud experience. The only prerequisite is that you are familiar with the Hebrew alef-bet (can recognize the letters and sound them out).
We’ll be studying a text that explores what it takes to be a judge and a leader in the Jewish tradition. According to the Rabbis, what kinds of people should be in charge of a legal system or a community? What principles guide deeply Jewish communal and ethical leadership? What risks does the tradition ask us to take?
